My tortuous career took me back to teach maths at the old school
from 1973 until 1980 when I moved as a Head of Department to Perthshire.
I started teaching maths in 1971 in East Lothian and then moved to
Heriot's. In Perthshire I was Head of
Department at Perth High School (1980 - 1985) and then spent the next 20
years as Head of Maths at Morrison's
Academy being given an honorary membership of the Morrisonian F.P. club
when I retired in 2004 - what a traitor!!
After retirement I re-married (sadly my first wife died in 1999) and
moved down to Kelso in the Scottish Borders where I can
forget about work and give much rewarding time to grandchildren. Between us Helen and I have five grandchildren with one on the way - I have two
grandsons
and a lovely little grand-daughter almost a year old. Helen has two lovely
grand-daughters with
her son and daughter-in-law expecting towards the end of the year.Enjoying
retirement in Kelso
and still driving primary school children to school on a part-time basis.
I obviously worked with quite a few staff who taught us in 1958. I am
still in touch with Jimmy Caw who is in Annan and
I know that Willie Waitt and "Monty" Faithful are bearing up quite
well. "Spike" had left GHS when I went back in 1973 but
I did work with "Fabian" McCall (I never called him that!) for a short
while. I think Tom Dennis is still going -
get a Christmas card each year (painted by himself). Tom was a really
good friend and colleague to work with at the old school.
