On leaving Heriots I joined a timber engineering company, travelling
thoughout the UK and Scandanavia. After 27 years and various takeovers, I
then spent a decade with Tarmac / Carillion, before celebrating the
millennium by moving to GHI Contracts in 2000.
GHI are a property fit-out contractor, with whom I am Business
Development Director, with no immediate thoughts of retirement, except
on driech Monday mornings.
I live with Virginia,(who has put up with me for 37 years), in the
village of Wallacestone near Falkirk. We have a married son in Polmont
and a married daughter in Leeds, with an evenly spread quartet of lovely
grandchildren.
Due to geography and circumstance, I have unfortunately lost touch with
all but a few ex-Herioters, the exceptions being the friendships I made
while living in Aberdour, and have retained through the Boat Club there.
My interests, after the joy of family and the necessity of business, are
therefore somewhat diluted, but remain, fishing, golfing, boating,
travelling, gardening and reading. Most of these, by their nature
fortunately, lend themselves to the accompaniment of the occasional
Laphroig, which may be considerably less dilute.
